The Talensi-Nabdam District in the Upper East Region has spent GHC 59,280 to connect three communities in the district to the national grid for electricity.

This follows the provision of 208 electric poles, and other materials for the project. The communities are Zanlerigu, Daliga and Asonge in the Nabdam constituency of the district, which has two constituencies.

This was announced by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mrs. Vivian Anafo at the inauguration of an electrification project for eight schools, at Zanlerigu in the Talensi Nabdam District.

From the MP’s Common Fund, the Member of Parliament for Nabdam, Moses Asaga has also provided GHC 9,600 to provide electricity for the cluster of schools in the area.

Mrs. Anafo announced that schools in 18 communities of the district had also been earmarked for the provision of lights, adding that the aim was to facilitate the teaching of ICT in those schools.

She reiterated the need for the people to put aside "their political differences, unite and co-exist peacefully in order to facilitate the development of the area".

The DCE stressed the need for them to come together and fight their common enemies which she mentioned as, "poverty, disease, illiteracy, hunger and ignorance".

She commended the MP for using the common fund to provide electricity to the schools and called on the people to prevail upon their children to make good use of it to justify the expenditure.

Hon. Asaga, on his part, underscored the importance of light in the classrooms and said the schools will now serve as a learning centre for the pupils since many houses in the place were yet to have lights.

He explained that the motive behind the provision of lights to the schools was to pave the way for them to be equipped with computers to enhance ICT training.
